After completing
1700 service hours in 1997, he became a staff member of the highly successful
Hillsborough Reads Tutoring program in the official capacity as Systems
Manager and tutor. In 1999, he left Tampa to move to Alexandria, VA
to become the Program Director of a startup nonprofit called Computer
C.O.R.E. (Community OutReach & Education) serving low-income mothers
on welfare. After an almost
two-year stint at C.O.R.E.'s helm, he moved to DC and became the Project
Manager for Charlie's Place, a homeless services agency serving the
poor in Dupont Circle, Adams Morgan, and Columbia Heights. Besides helping
to raise money for the program, he also started a weekly lunch program
serving hundreds of people each season. In addition to working with
the homeless, Chris found time to launch the Techno-Activism Project
associated with the Social Action and Leadership School for Activists. His IT work includes creating
customized website software for community initiatives like the DC Anti-War Network
and The DC Community Action Network. And more recently his efforts have focused
on making Community Empowerment Operations an important DC resource. He is an eternal activist
and his love for the planet is tremendous and insightful. * Management * Legal * Education
